— Portland Double Gates —

The Home
You Always Wanted

A driveway gate is the largest thing on your frontage and the one nobody forgets. The Portland makes both of those work in your favour.

01

The biggest decision on your frontage

Nothing else at the front of a property is this large, this visible, or this permanent. Get it wrong and it undercuts everything behind it — the render, the landscaping, the cars in the drive. Get it right and the whole address lifts. The Portland double is built to be the deciding piece: substantial, square-section, quietly architectural, with a presence that reads as considered rather than expensive. It is the difference between a house that people drive past and a home that makes them slow down.

02

The whole front of the property becomes yours

A driveway is the widest opening in the boundary, and usually the one that gives everything away — the cars, the kids, the front yard, the whole of the house behind it. The Portland closes that off properly. Uprights set just 10mm apart make the lower half read as solid from the road: private at eye level, no line of sight in, while air and light still move through so it never becomes a wall. Above the upper rail, a 200mm open band keeps the sky in the picture. The front of the property stops being on display and starts being part of the home.

03

Considered down to the millimetre

Square 65 × 65 RHS gate sides. Square 40 × 40 RHS top and bottom rails, with 38 × 25 RHS intermediate rails carrying the open band across the top. Slim 50 × 10 RHS uprights, spaced an even 10mm apart and set out so the rhythm holds true across both leaves — the spacing reads continuously from one side of the driveway to the other, and the open squares above line up leaf to leaf. Welded from premium galvanised Australian steel. No scrollwork, no finials, no flourish added to distract from a thin frame. Restraint like this is only available to people who can build properly. Everything else has to be decorated.

04

Heavy-duty ball bearing hinges, included

Hardware is where an expensive-looking gate gives itself away, usually inside the first year — and on a pair of leaves this size, there is nowhere for a weak hinge to hide. So every Portland double is supplied with heavy-duty ball bearing hinges, top and bottom on each leaf. Sealed 180° bearings carry the load instead of grinding against it, rated well beyond the weight of the gate, so both leaves swing smooth and effortless and never drop or drag. Every hinge is fully adjustable on a threaded stem, so the installer can dial each leaf square on its post and close the centre gap to a clean, even line — then leave it set. It matters more again if you automate: an opener only ever performs as well as the hinges underneath it. Zinc plated for the weather. Included in the price, not an upsell.

05

One language, the whole way around

Pair the Portland double with the matching Portland single gate and fence panels and the entire frontage reads as one resolved composition — same square sections, same close 10mm spacing below, same open band above, same finish, carried from boundary to front path to driveway. The home arrives at the street the way it should: composed, considered, and unmistakably chosen rather than supplied.

— How the Portland compares —
What matters Portland Steel Double Gates Aluminium / Timber Gates
Arrival presence Substantial square-section steel — architectural, settled, and unmistakably chosen for the house. Hollow, light and generic; reads as builder-default rather than a decision.
Privacy across the driveway Just 10mm between uprights — real privacy across the widest opening in the boundary, with an open band above for light. Wide infills you can see straight through, or a slab panel that reads closed-off and heavy.
Security & strength Precision-engineered steel resists forcing and impact — a gate you can genuinely rely on. Aluminium flexes and dents; timber can be forced or weakened over time.
Hinges in the box Heavy-duty adjustable ball bearing hinges on both leaves — rated well beyond the load, smooth swing, no drop. Basic butt hinges, or hardware sold separately — the first thing to sag or seize on a wide leaf.
Closes cleanly for decades Precision-welded steel keeps both leaves square, so the centre gap stays even and the gates meet true. Timber warps and drops; lighter gates sag until the centre gap goes crooked.
Finish & longevity Four-Stage Bonded Powder Coat in 26 premium colours — engineered for Australian conditions. Limited colour range with shorter finish lifespan; timber requires constant maintenance.
Made & supported in Australia 100% Tamworth-made, expert guidance from selection through installation — backed by our 10-Year Structural Warranty. Commonly imported, with limited reseller-based support after the sale.
— Designed for the long view —

There's a long stretch between moving in and feeling moved in. The lawn comes in. The hedges fill out. The cars stop looking new. And one day the driveway gates go on — and the place finally reads, from the road, as the home you've been picturing the whole way through.

The Portland double is built for that moment. Substantial, square-section, restrained — uprights set just 10mm apart through the lower half so the front of the property is genuinely private, open across the top so it never feels like a barricade. The kind of gate that ages forward rather than dates. The matching single gate and fence panels carry the same language, so the boundary, the front path and the driveway all settle into one resolved composition.

It isn't the cheapest way to close a driveway, and it was never meant to be. An aluminium gate is a purchase — replaced when it sags, fades or dents, and the second one costs what the first one did. A Portland is fitted once. Australian galvanised steel, welded by hand, four-stage bonded powder coat, heavy-duty ball bearing hinges in the box, backed for ten years. Spread across the years it will stand there, it is one of the least expensive things you will do to the front of the house — and one of the few your children could still be closing behind them.

A house is a project. A home is the moment the gates go on.

Delivered ready to hang

A pair of driveway leaves is a serious load — so every Portland double ships with heavy-duty ball bearing hinges included, top and bottom on each leaf, the higher-grade hinge built to carry that weight and keep both gates swinging smooth for the long haul. For a clean swing and a centre gap that stays even, we recommend a minimum 100 × 100 mm steel post, and we supply the full range of compatible posts, locks, drop bolts and automation hardware to suit.

Speak to our team before you order. We'll walk you through opening width, leaf split, swing direction, post selection and automation — so the Portland hangs straight, meets true in the centre and closes cleanly from day one.

— Made in Tamworth —
